NHL Rumors and Speculation

  • Bob Stauffer (630CHED): Edmonton Oilers GM Ken Holland will be looking to bring in a veteran goaltender to replace Anton Forsberg who was claimed by the Carolina Hurricanes.
  • Darren Dreger (TSN): On the Patrik Laine/Pierre-Luc Dubois rumors, Winnipeg Jets holdout Jack Roslovic, and the Vancouver Canucks future roster plans,
    • Laine/Dubois: “That makes a lot of sense but there’s nothing close there.”
    • Roslovic: “Chevaldayoff has had conversations with teams about Roslovic but he’s willing to be patient.
    • Vancouver: “Jim Benning is definitely looking at the market for a top-6 winger.”
  • Frank Seravalli (TSN): On the Keith Yandle situation in Florida,
    • “He’s fallen out of favor with the Florida Panthers and they’ve let it be known to him that he does not factor into their plans for this season. The plan at the moment is to make Keith Yandle a healthy scratch at some point.”
  • Pierre LeBrun (TSN): Commenting on the “cat and mouse” game that GMs will be playing as they try to sneak their no.3 goalies onto their taxi squads,
    • “It starts in Edmonton where the Oilers are probably not overly thrilled to have lost Anton Forsberg to the Carolina Hurricanes. They signed him literally for this role as the no.3 guy. Stuart Skinner steps up now as the no.3 guy on the taxi squad but the Oilers have time here. The AHL season doesn’t get started until Feb. 5th and Skinner is supposed to be their AHL guy. Until then I think Ken Holland will be patient and here’s why, if Carolina wants to put Anton Forsberg on their Taxi Squad, they’ll have to put him back on waivers and there’s a chance the Oilers could re-claim him.”
  • Lyle Richardson (Spector’s Hockey): On what assets the Montreal Canadiens could possibly use to deal for Pierre-Luc Dubois with using their top-two centers Jesperi Kotkaniemi and Nick Suzuki,
    • Maybe Bergevin bundles pending UFA Philip Danault with a top prospect like Cole Caulfield and a couple of his 11 picks between rounds 2 and 5 of the 2021 NHL draft,
  • Tarik El-Bashir (The Athletic): Says he could see Washington making a move if the goaltending is suspect early on in the season,
    • “As far as potentially trading a blueliner, I could see it. Consider this hypothetical: MacLellan is still unsure or not confident in his goaltending a month into the season. I suspect flipping a defenseman for a goalie would be on the table.”
