NHL Rumors and Speculation

  • Elliotte Friedman (Sportsnet): UFA forwards Mikael Granlund, Andreas Athanasiou, and Mike Hoffman could soon find homes for the 2020-21 season as the action is picking up.
  • Sam Carchidi (Philadelphia Inquirer): Nolan Patrick is skating without issues and able to sleep much better because headaches have diminished. There are still some hurdles but things are looking hopeful.
  • Chris Johnston (Sportsnet): Keep an eye on the RFA market now that Philippe Myers has signed in Philadelphia. Players like Ethan Bear (EDM), Oliver Kylington (CGY), and Eric Cernak (TB) could have their contract negotiations affected by the Myers deal.
  • Emily Kaplan (ESPN): Gary Bettman on NHL’s next TV deal: “It’s about exposure, promotion, how games are covered… Who will give our fans the best experience.”
  • Sportsnet 650: Canucks GM Jim Benning says they tried to move Loui Eriksson but found no takers. If he’s waived and sent to the AHL, they can relieve up to $1.075M of cap room.
  • Jim Thomas (Post-Dispatch): Blues GM Doug Armstrong says both Vladimir Tarasenko and Alexander Steen won’t be ready to play at the start of the season due to injury.
  • Dans Les Coulisses: Canadiens’ season ticket waiting list is “melting like snow in the sun.” Sponsorship income is, too. Teams may endorse the idea of having ads on jerseys.
  • Iain MacIntyre (Sportsnet): Alex Edler: “I get that you probably couldn’t fit all three of (Markstrom, Tanev, or Toffoli). But I was a little bit surprised that all three of them are gone.
