(2/1/2021) – BLH’s NHL Rumors: “The Habs and the Canucks did have a conversation about…”

BLH provides you with the latest NHL news, rumors, and speculation featuring Johnny Gaudreau (CGY), Tony DeAngelo (NYR), Travis Konecny (PHI), Jake Virtanen (VAN), and more!

The Oilers have a bit of a mind-bender brewing on the right side of their defense and a couple of big contracts set to expire there with some high-end prospects almost ready to take over. What is Ken Holland set to do?

TSN’s Frank Seravalli says that Ryan Nugent-Hopkins might not be in the Oilers’ plans going forward. Read all about it right here.

Craig Button absolutely tore the Oilers a new a$$hole on TSN 1260 recently. Click this link and read what he said!

NHL Rumors and Speculation

  • Eric Francis (Sportsnet): Thinks that Johnny Gaudreau will be playing for another hockey club next season,
    • “There is zero doubt in my mind that he is not going to re-sign in Calgary. He says otherwise, but I think he is destined for Philadelphia. I think people have thought that from the day he signed here and he’ll ultimately be a Flyer.”

BLH’s Thoughts: It sounds like the Flyers are doing their best to try and upgrade the scoring on their wings. I think it would be cool if Johnny Hockey was dealt to the Flyers and joined good buddy Kevin Hayes. What would that mean for the Flames though? A mini-rebuild? Perhaps move Sam Bennett and Sean Monahan as well and put Mark Giordano out to pasture? I’ll say this, if Joel Farabee isn’t part of the package coming back for Gaudreau, that’s an instant loss.

  • Rick Carpiniello (The Athletic): Reports that the reason Tony DeAngelo was put on waivers was because of a conflict with a teammate.
    • “Three sources have confirmed to The Athletic that there was indeed an altercation involving DeAngelo and goalie Alexandar Georgiev in the tunnel that leads to the Rangers’ locker room. Incidentally, Georgiev was held out of practice for “maintenance” on Sunday. The altercation was quickly broken up.”

BLH’s Thoughts: Tony DeAngelo is a complete moron. Lucky for him, he can play the game and the institution of hockey tends to overlook some less than savory character flaws if you’re good. Times up on his clown though. He should be actively pursuing employment in the KHL as we speak.

  • Danny Silver (nhltraderumors.me): Reveals what the Philadelphia Flyers were offering for Patrik Laine before the Jets traded him to Columbus.
    • “The Flyers reportedly made an offer to the Jets in order to acquire Laine. Nolan Patrick was rumored to be on the table and was nearly sent back to his hometown. The Flyers also made an offer that included highly touted Travis Konecny, but whether both players were offered in exchange for Laine is unclear.”

BLH’s Thoughts: Why they’d want to move Konecny is beyond me. Unless his relationship with the coach has soured or they feel like Nolan Patrick’s health is in good enough shape that they feel they can sacrifice Konecny for help on the wing… Why not just move him to the wing in that case?

  • Patrick Johnston (The Province): Wonders if the Montreal Canadiens and Vancouver Canucks might get together and give Victor Mete and Jake Virtanen new addresses.
    • “The Habs and the Canucks did have a conversation about Jake Virtanen at the 2019 draft …”

BLH’s Thoughts: You know what they say? You can’t have too many wingers
