NHL Rumors and Speculation
- Darren Dreger (TSN): After getting the news that Sam Bennett would be a healthy scratch last night tweeted: “This may fuel trade speculation, but sources say, at the moment, there is nothing on the front burner related to trade.”
- On the latest edition of Insider Trading, Dreger added, “Trade speculation always generates a buzz, particularly in Canada. But the Flames’ position on Sam Bennett is no different than it was a year ago: They are in absolutely no rush to trade him. It has to be the right fit… It’s got to work best for the Flames, otherwise, GM Brad Treliving is willing to stand pat and use Bennett as a potentially impactful player for Calgary.”
- Elliotte Friedman (Sportsnet): Noted that there are three reasons the Calgary Flames will be cautious with trading forward Sam Bennett,
- Bennett was GM Brad Treliving’s first-ever draft pick, so there’s a lot invested with him.
- Bennett’s production increases in the playoffs, and he does not shy away from the kind of hockey that wins in the post-season. The Flames know this and value it.
- There’ve been previous occasions where there’s been frustration between player and organization.
- Rick Dhaliwal (TSN): Says the Vancouver Canucks are out on Bennett,
- “I was told the Canucks don’t have the assets to make a deal to get Sam Bennett”
- Rob Williams (Daily Hive Vancouver): Tanner Pearson recently commented on his future playing plans,
- “When the time comes, I’m all ears, I want to stay here.”
- Larry Brooks (NY Post): Says the Calgary Flames are doing their due diligence on Rangers defenseman Anthony DeAngelo,
- “The Flames are conducting due diligence on Tony DeAngelo and have expressed at least preliminary interest in the Rangers’ excommunicated defenseman, The Post has confirmed.”
- “If Calgary’s interest is legitimate and management receives positive reports, it would likely behoove the Flames to move quickly since DeAngelo would be subject to a 14-day quarantine in crossing the border.”
