NHL Rumors and Speculation

The Athletic: Adam Vingan says the Mark Stone trade could be a comparable return for what the Predators might be able to get for Filip Forsberg. It provides a framework – high-level prospect in Erik Brannstrom and a second-round pick.

NBC Sports Washington: JJ Regan, in a mailbag, says the Washington Capitals have a crowded left side of their defense – Michal KempnyBrenden DillonDmitry Orlov, Siegenthaler, Martin Fehervary and Alex Alexeyev –  and may look to move out someone to create some extra cap space in order to re-sign their pending free agents in Alex OvechkinJakub Vrana, Jonas Siegenthaler and Ilya Samsonov.

TSN: Frank Seravalli believes contending teams would have interest in Columbus Blue Jackets 30-year old defenseman David Savard, Who is a pending UFA.

1. Mattias Ekholm – Nashville Predators
2. David Savard – Columbus Blue Jackets
3. Anthony DeAngelo – New York Rangers
4. Brandon Montour – Buffalo Sabres
5. Taylor Hall – Buffalo Sabres
6. Mikael Granlund – Nashville Predators
7. Bobby Ryan – Detroit Red Wings
8. Jake Virtanen – Vancouver Canucks
9. Sam Bennett – Calgary Flames
10. Tanner Pearson – Vancouver Canucks
11. Luke Glendening – Detroit Red Wings
12. Vince Dunn – St. Louis Blues
13. Eric Staal – Buffalo Sabres

TSN:  Darren Dreger says the Toronto Maple Leafs are looking to upgrade their forward group before the NHL Trade Deadline this season. He said that a couple of weeks ago, they weren’t sure that’s what they would do, but as of now, they are looking some more depth.

“Look, Toronto has the prospects, and if necessary have the draft picks to make something like that happen. As long as the Leafs continue to win, then I know Dubas is going to try and bolster the group up front.”

The Athletic: Fluto Shinzawa says the Boston Bruins are going to be major players on Jack Eichel if the star center shakes loose from the Buffalo Sabres and according to a source close to Eichel himself, “I just don’t see any way they can’t be all over him,”.

Shinzawa says that the Bruins could absorb Eichel’s contract if they chose not to re-sign David Krejci and Tuukka Rask as that would open up over $14M in salary but the trick would be the trade return,

“It would be high. If the Sabres put their captain and best player on the market, they would require bankable assets. The most equitable conversation would begin with Pastrnak or Charlie McAvoy, both of whom the Bruins adore. Pastrnak, 24, is an offensive firestarter whom the Bruins stole in 2014. McAvoy, 23, is the Bruins’ MVP this year and blue-line alpha dog.”

The Athletic scribe goes on to note that if the Bruins couldn’t get a trade done that other organizations like Minnesota, the New York Rangers, LA Kings, and Vancouver Canucks could be in on the Sabres captain too.
