If there was a former Hart Trophy winner available on the trade market, wouldn’t you want your favorite team to go out and get him? That could be the case in Edmonton as they ramp up their search for a top-six right winger.
By the way, egg on my face. I said yesterday I didn’t think the Oilers could beat Dallas and they did just that. Serves me right for doubting the power of Uncle Evan.
I should start prefacing these blogs with the fact that I write them a day in advance and because we’re getting so close to the deadline there’s a good chance I might write about a player or a team and it be old news by the time it gets to your beautiful eyes. If that happens, my apologies!

- And here we are talking about Eberle, Tarasenko, Guentzel, Duclair… We should be going wild over Patrick Kane!!! He’s still producing at a point-per-game!
- How about this wildcard RW target for the Oilers? Is this where Ken Holland cashes in on his “future considerations” from the Kostin/Yamamoto deal?
- This would be such a Holland-esque move too, right? Would Edmonton pay a premium for the former Hart winner though? Would Kane want to go to Edmonton?
- First Perry, then Kane… You can never have enough former Hart Trophy winners on one team I say.
- It’d be hard not to get excited having Patrick Kane on Leon or Connor’s wing and there was some chatter about him coming to Edmonton last year, was there not?
- I think if he hits the market, he shoots to no.1 on a lot of trade lists and the Oilers would most likely overpay to get him, but if Holland/Jackson could find a way to get him to spend another year or two in Edmonton… It’d be worth it.
- It’d be tough though, Pat Brisson has one Oiler under his care and that’s Olli Rodrigue…
Time to Go Shark Hunting?
“Anthony Duclair is a backup option for Edmonton. Duclair is a speedy, playmaking winger with some decent scoring touch. He is certainly far from a high-end target, and his defensive play is a concern, but Duclair has been reasonably productive throughout the past four years at 5v5, and makes just $3M. If Edmonton is unsuccessful at acquiring a more expensive, higher-end option for cap reasons, they could look at trading for Duclair as a backup plan.” – Oilersnation
- I could see why the Oilers would see value in Duclair. During last year’s run with FLA he had 11pts in 20 games. Ten of those points came at even strength. He topped that off with 40 shots as well, but he did it as a middle-six winger…
- Also, we’ve been sold on a “fast” winger before only to have it blow up in our faces. I mean, as long as they don’t call him Zach Hyman-lite, we should be okay.
- I suppose I shouldn’t joke. Duclair popped 31 goals in two seasons ago and was that not the year that FLA was the highest scoring team in the league? Is there a part of you that wonders what he might be able to do on Edmonton with that offense?
- I’ve heard the Sharks are having issues trimming off some of their unwanted fat and that could mean there are some good players to be had on the cheap.
- Now, San Jose is going to be very familiar with Edmonton’s minor league team in Bakersfield, there’s a chance it might be easier to sell Mike Grier on a Condor or two at the deadline…
Why Help Calgary?

- Bad idea. I’m telling you right now. Tanev is not the droid you’re looking for.
- Why do folks want to pay so much for a rental?
- Broberg will be replacing Kulak next season. They need him not only for his skills and size but also his contract.
- I’m not convinced that they’ll get their RHD upgrade at the deadline but maybe they could go shopping in the summer and one guy I’d target is Matt Roy (LA) if he doesn’t re-sign in with the Kings.
- Roy has been a pain in the ass for McDavid and Draisaitl for a few years now and he averages about 20/21 minutes a night. He’s only got four fewer points than Sean Walker (PHI) for Christ’s sake…
- I think he’s a sneaky better version of Tanev if you ask me and he’s only 29 years old. Could easily replace Ceci (or Desharnais).
