Jan. 7th in Oilers History: Gretzky Nets 50th in 42nd Game and Plenty of Fights!

On this day in Edmonton Oilers history a few notable and entertaining things happened,

  • In a 5-3 win vs the Hartford Whalers in 1984, Wayne Gretzky scored his 50th goal in his 42 game of the season.

  • Sheldon Souray one-punched KO’d Vancouver Canucks defender Matthias Ohlund in 2009.

  • In 1980, Jim Corsi started in net for the Oilers in a game vs. the Montreal Canadiens and is credited with one point in the match.

  • Tim Jackman (Islanders) decides that he likes getting his face smashed and reckons scrapping with two Edmonton Oilers (Zack Stortini and Ethan Moreau) is better than one!

Beer League Hero Written by:

I'm the Beer League Hero! I am from Camrose, Alberta but I make my home in Taipei City, Taiwan. I've been through the ups and downs and the highs and the Lowes, the Bonsignores and the McDavids, the Sathers and the Eakins but I'll never leave my Oilers, no matter what! They're with me until the end and then some. GO OILERS GO!
