  • Adam Gretz (NBC Sports): “Some believe the league could threaten to push the season back to a February 1 start with a 48-game season”
    • ” (Mike) Hoffman is by far the best free agent still available, and even though his game has some flaws away from the puck he is still a 30-goal scorer. (Mikael) Granlund may not have worked out in Nashville the way the Predators had hoped, but he would also be a solid pickup.”
    •  NBC Sports’ Adam Gretz writes, the Avs might not be in the market to keep Brandon Saad after this season.

BLH’s Thoughts: Some players are under the impression that they hold all the leverage at the moment because Gary Bettman needs to keep the NHL’s integrity intact and “work stoppage” would be very detrimental to that.

Nashville might be best served by keeping their powder dry this year and picking up bad contracts for draft picks in order to possibly perform a rebuild on the fly. With the salary cap looking to be sitting in the low 80 millions for the foreseeable future, those teams with extra cap room will be holding very valuable cards when subsequent off-seasons commence.

Yeah, I’m skeptical that Saad will stay in Colorado seeing as that team has to re-sign Gabby Landeskog and Cale Makar right away. Not only that, but surely they’ll be looking to bring Alex Newhook into the fold sooner than later and his ELC deal will be worth much more to the club than Saad.

  • Dom Luszczyszyn (The Athletic): Thinks that the Boston Bruins should shore up their defense by giving Lightning Mikhail Sergachev an offer sheet. He believes that Sergachev is the type of player you want to go after and it hurts a division rival.

BLH’s Thoughts: Nope. Not happening. And that’s even before Jake DeBrusk was re-signed.

I’ll maintain that offer-sheets will be a rarity until the old guard ceases to exist in the NHL.

  • ESPN: Max Domi addressed his recent trade from the Montreal Canadiens to the Columbus Blue Jackets. He pointed to his and the Canadiens’ struggles last season as factors that led to the deal that sent him to Columbus for Josh Anderson.

BLH’s Thoughts: Oh and maybe the deteriation of the relationship between head coach Claude Julien and Domi helped facilitate that trade somewhat as well.

I’m a little annoyed the Oilers weren’t in on Domi (to our knowledge). Would you have traded Kassian or Puljujarvi plus for Tie’s kid?
