NHL Rumors and Speculation

  • Eric Duhatschek (The Athletic): Reckons if the Flames could convince the Flyers to part with Travis Konecny, Johnny Gaudreau would be heading to Philadelphia.
    • “If Gaudreau is traded, the most logical landing spot would be Philadelphia, where he would almost certainly agree to sign an extension. (Gaudreau is a local boy who’s made good, a homebody at heart, with a close relationship to his family and his best college buddy, Kevin Hayes, is signed long-term with the Flyers). If the Flyers were prepared to part with Travis Konecny, and a helpful blue line piece, that might be the bones of an impact trade that would rattle the foundation at its core.”
  • Dom Luszczyszyn (The Athletic): Believes if last season was a sign of things to come, the 2021-22 season might need to be a transition year for the Calgary Flames where they move on from core players Johnny Gaudreau and Mark Giordano in hopes of a quick re-tool as opposed to a full-on rebuild as they already have a lot of the pieces in place.
  • Sportsnet: The Vancouver Canucks have received support from the First Nations over the Orca logo. The Canucks also relayed a statement on behalf of Three Host Nations Chiefs of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh Nations,
    • For over a decade we have worked side-by-side to build a long and meaningful relationship based on respect and family-to-family values. The Aquilini family has supported the communities by honouring the Nations, creating space in their organization for our people, and ensuring the nations are represented in their events,” the statement said.”Our Nations appreciate the work they do and their friendship. We will continue to strengthen this relationship and support their endeavours through the ever-changing times.”
  • Emily Sadler (Sportsnet): Gary Bettman doesn’t believe a full-season bubble is a realistic possibility.
  • Sportsnet: He got an assist in the first game of his 32nd professional hockey season but Jaromir Jagr feels like the drive to keep playing is becoming less and less. However, he’s determined to his club, Kladno, return to the top division in the Czech pro league.
    • “I can’t say how long I want to keep playing. The game is getting more difficult. I think I kind of lost the drive when I wanted to prove that I’m still capable of getting better. I feel a lack of motivation to keep playing, though this year is definitely not the last in my career.”
