NHL Rumors and Speculation

  • Shug McSween (nhltraderumors.me): Says he heard from one NHL executive that Calgary Flames forward Sam Bennett has been linked to the Toronto Maple Leafs.
    • “Bennett has been linked to Toronto and a lot of that has to do with Doug Gilmour. The deal could work here because of the Canada/Canada aspect and no quarantine would be needed. Perhaps Calgary would be interested in Travis Dermott and Pierre Engvall who are all the same age. Something to monitor for sure. Like usual, will come down to dollars and cents.”
  • Eric Francis (Sportsnet): Says Sam Bennett hasn’t requested a trade away from the Calgary Flames,
    • “Here’s the craziest thing about Sam Bennett’s trade request. It never happened. Bennett has not asked the Calgary Flames to trade him.”
  • Peter Braugh (The Athletic): Is reporting that the Colorado Avalanche won’t be in the market to make a trade for a goaltender unless the health of Pavel Francouz and Philipp Grubauer deteriorates. He also believes they’ll hold onto JT Compher, Joonas Donskoi, Ryan Graves, and Connor Timmins.
  • Pierre LeBrun (The Athletic): Is reporting that Gerard Gallant should be on the Seattle Kraken’s shortlist for head coach.
  • Chris Johnston (Sportsnet): On the Staff and Graph podcast said that NHL Network commentator and former NHL goalie Kevin Weekes is a name that we’ll hear in connection to the Pittsburgh Penguins GM search.
    • “Teams have called the Leafs on Travis Dermott, but I don’t think they’ve been too willing to part with him. Mikko Lehtonen, if he’s not in their plans, might be someone they trade.”
  • Elliotte Friedman (Sportsnet): Commented on the rumor that Jim Rutherford resigned because ownership wouldn’t let him trade Kris Letang. He said he looked into it and didn’t think it was true because they were actually looking to trade FOR a defenseman.
    • Another d-man rumored to be on Pittsburgh’s radar is Montreal youngster Victor Mete.
    • Friedman also said on Saturday Headlines that another name to look out for with regards to the Penguins GM search is the daughter of former Stanley Cup winning GM Jay Feaster, Theresa Feaster. Other names include Joe Nieuwendyk and Jason Karmanos.
