NHL Rumors and Speculation

Courtesy of The Athletic, here are some trade Oilers trade proposals that were submitted to Jonathan Willis for him, Corey Pronman, and an NHL Executive to comment on.

Calle Jarnkrok for Caleb Jones and Alex Chiasson

  • “Let me dance around this by saying a lot of smart teams are circling on Jarnkrok, and Nashville will likely get a return closer to Barclay Goodrow or Blake Coleman than some might think.” – NHL Exec.

Vladislav Namestnikov for Cooper Marody or Tyler Benson

  • “If they like either of those kids, sure?” – NHL Exec.

Tyler Motte and Adam Gaudette for Jones

  • “This deal was suggested by one of our executives… It’s a decent gamble for the Oilers, and the valuation is solid. If I’m Vancouver, though, I’m not overly eager to move Motte.” – Willis

Spencer Knight for Dylan Holloway

  • “Florida I think says no, but they would have to think a long time about it. It’s close to a 50/50, given their goalie conundrum. I think this offer is reasonable and something could be built around it.” – Pronman

Elvis Merzlikins for Mikko Koskinen (30 percent salary retention), Jones and a 2022 second-rounder

  • “With the fourth playoff spot wide open in the Central, it feels like it would be a strange time for the Blue Jackets to do it.” – NHL Exec.

Antti Raanta (with 50 percent salary retention) for a second-round pick

  • “Raanta is often hurt, but he might make some sense for the Oilers if they’re not comfortable with their goaltending. A second-round pick would probably do it, with half his salary retained.” – NHL Exec.

John Gibson for 2021 and 2022 first-round picks, Koskinen, Chiasson, Raphael Lavoie and Olivier Rodrigue

  • “The Ducks do that deal if I’m the GM. They may not do the deal with a potentially dead-man-walking GM who has mismanaged elite talent for the last half decade (see: Theodore, Shea).” – NHL Exec.
