Hockey Fight - Beer League Heroes

In the last two nights, there’ve been four outstanding hockey fights that have taken place. One in the Tampa Bay Lightning/Nashville Predators game, one in the Vegas Golden Knights/Anaheim Ducks matchup, and two in the Edmonton Oilers/Ottawa Senators game.

There might’ve been more but these are the ones that stood out to me. Man, there were some behemoths chuckin’ knucks in these battles.

On this day in 1986, the Edmonton Oilers and the Calgary Flames were embroiled in yet another epic battle of Alberta. With the visiting Oilers up 4-1 in the 2nd period, Marty McSorley had a goal and an assist under his belt and only needed a fight to complete his Gordie Howe Hat Trick…

The Hockey Gods obliged.

At 17:45 of the second frame, Doug Risebrough of the Flames got into a tiff with the aforementioned McSorley at center ice but official Swede Knox decided to step in and stop things before they got started. Unfortunately, he tied up the Oilers’ tough guy and that’s when Risebrough stepped up and threw a massive cheap shot that landed right on the beak of McSorley, a decision he would later regret.

Then all hell broke loose…
