NHL Rumors and Speculation

  • Eric Duhatschek (The Athletic): Reckons if the Flames could convince the Flyers to part with Travis Konecny, Johnny Gaudreau would be heading to Philadelphia.
    • “If Gaudreau is traded, the most logical landing spot would be Philadelphia, where he would almost certainly agree to sign an extension. (Gaudreau is a local boy who’s made good, a homebody at heart, with a close relationship to his family and his best college buddy, Kevin Hayes, is signed long-term with the Flyers). If the Flyers were prepared to part with Travis Konecny, and a helpful blue line piece, that might be the bones of an impact trade that would rattle the foundation at its core.”
  • Dom Luszczyszyn (The Athletic): Believes if last season was a sign of things to come, the 2021-22 season might need to be a transition year for the Calgary Flames where they move on from core players Johnny Gaudreau and Mark Giordano in hopes of a quick re-tool as opposed to a full-on rebuild as they already have a lot of the pieces in place.
  • Sportsnet: The Vancouver Canucks have received support from the First Nations over the Orca logo. The Canucks also relayed a statement on behalf of Three Host Nations Chiefs of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh Nations,
    • For over a decade we have worked side-by-side to build a long and meaningful relationship based on respect and family-to-family values. The Aquilini family has supported the communities by honouring the Nations, creating space in their organization for our people, and ensuring the nations are represented in their events,” the statement said.”Our Nations appreciate the work they do and their friendship. We will continue to strengthen this relationship and support their endeavours through the ever-changing times.”
  • Emily Sadler (Sportsnet): Gary Bettman doesn’t believe a full-season bubble is a realistic possibility.
  • Sportsnet: He got an assist in the first game of his 32nd professional hockey season but Jaromir Jagr feels like the drive to keep playing is becoming less and less. However, he’s determined to his club, Kladno, return to the top division in the Czech pro league.
    • “I can’t say how long I want to keep playing. The game is getting more difficult. I think I kind of lost the drive when I wanted to prove that I’m still capable of getting better. I feel a lack of motivation to keep playing, though this year is definitely not the last in my career.”

The Oilers Are Open For Business! Plus the Mid-Season Thoughts

I don’t want to say that the season is over quite yet. Especially with so many games left (20-ish) versus the Pacific Division where they have the 3rd best record behind Anaheim and San Jose since Chiarelli, McLellan and McDavid came on board.

The Oilers have two games left before their bye week and they’re back-to-back Friday and Saturday. Luckily neither are afternoon games, amirite?

Listen, everybody is going to think that the Oilers will walk all over the Coyotes and that the Golden Knights are going to walk all over the Oilers but we know better, it’s going to be the opposite isn’t it?

Actually, I have tons of faith in the boys that they’ll come out with 3 or more points this weekend and those games could very well be the catalyst that sparks a serious 10 (or more) game streak of positive results.

Of course, I’m less a realist and more an optimist, so naturally, I’ll take that route of thinking. I just find that reading any sponsored Oilers blog (Oilersnation, Oil on Whyte, The Oilers Rig, Copper and Blue, etc) or their Twitter personalities to be a real pain in the ass. WAY too negative. I mean good god people. Let’s take a step back and realize that we’re getting upset at something that’s way out of our control. But I suppose it’s a bit easier for me not being in Edmonton or Alberta or Canada for that matter as I can go out in public with my Oilers swag on and nobody gives a flying fart.

Anyways, I’m not writing today to bitch and moan about other sites. I want to get into my thoughts on the team looking back and going forward into this summer. Talk about some roster speculation and what not.

IS THE TEAM A WRITE-OFF FOR 2017/18?

I don’t believe it is because anything can happen but it’s harder and harder to tow that line every week as the divide between the Oilers and the rest of the Pacific grows. That said, if Edmonton can outright win most of their remaining games vs. their division rivals, that’d go a long way to getting into a playoff position. Securing it is another story. Gotta have a good rest of January though.

WHAT HAVE YOU TAKEN AWAY FROM THIS SEASON?

The parity is real. Take what the media says with a grain of salt at the beginning of the season. Never get too high on your team but never get too low on them either.

The failures of this team are on the players and the coaching staff. I refuse to blame Chiarelli for this even though he made a poor trade dealing Eberle for Strome (Even though Strome has more goals than Eberle in the last month… hehe). Even with that deal and the apparent lack of depth on the wing, the Oilers have shown the ability to keep up with the major NHL clubs.

You could say that the Oilers failed to replace Sekera but when people say this they never offer a solution. Sekera is a $5M player, right? So were the Oilers supposed to find another $5M dman? I thought Auvitu was supposed to be the critic’s choice anyhow?

Did Chiarelli fail to shore up the goaltending behind Talbot? Go take a look at Brossoit’s numbers last year and tell me you would’ve replaced him this year because you still felt nervous…

What Chiarelli did wrong, in my opinion, was that he put his faith in the Caggiulas, Bennings, Slepyshevs, and Yamamotos. I really feel that in today’s NHL you MUST have great veterans on your team when you have the likes of McDavid, Draisaitl, Nugent-Hopkins, and Nurse on your team. I love what Toronto did in signing Marleau and I loved what Calgary did in signing Jagr even though that’s not working out. But back to Toronto for a second, they’ve got a great group of older players insulating Matthews, Nylander, and Marner and I simply think that’s how you do it. If you go the route that Edmonton has, you risk having the highest of highs and the lowest of lows more often.

When you build a team you build from the spine out. That means centre depth, D depth, and goaltending depth. Then after that, you sort out the wings. This is the first time in probably a decade where the Oilers have had this kind of depth down the spine but that’s not good enough for the “diehards”.

Special teams, bad starts, injuries, and basically all the things that went right for the Oilers last season have gone wrong for them this year but I do believe that things happen for a reason and this year will be a great learning experience for the players, coaches, management, and ownership.

With those supposed failures are some successes as well.

Jesse Puljujarvi is going to be one of the best 21-and-under players in the NHL very soon. Darnell Nurse has turned a corner in his development. Kailer Yamamoto will most likely be in the NHL next season (possibly on McDavid’s line), Tyler Benson has found a way to stay healthy (knock on wood), Kirill Maksimov is ripping up the OHL, and in the minors, Caleb Jones and Ethan Bear are coming along very nicely!

One more thing on Puljujarvi, he’s looking like he’ll score most of his goals from in tight until he learns to be more creative with his shot and that’ll come with experience and more confidence. He’s already one of the team’s best defensive players due to that long stick/reach and quick forechecking. He’s an untouchable for me on this team.

The Oilers have a top-5 PK on the road… With the same players… The same coaches… The Same GM… Same puck, sticks, ice, and skates. Top 5 people. Let that sink in before calling for someone’s head. Or at least offer a tangible solution

HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT CHIARELLI’S LATEST AVAILS?

I feel like he told us a lot without telling us anything. He’s a trained lawyer so he knows what he’s doing there. He pissed off a lot of people telling them he was going to stick with the grander plan and pissed off, even more, explaining the Eberle trade.

So, here’s the thing with him saying what he did about that trade. If what he said angered you that’s probably because you feel as if you deserve some sort of transparency on his part but you don’t. You’re a fan, why should Peter Chiarelli or any other GM give two shits about your feelings regarding a trade, how it got done, how long it took, or how many permutations of the deal there was before the final one was decided on.

Oh you’re a fan and you pay your money, well if it means that much to you, stop! Stop paying for things Oilers related. Stop buying products from companies that sponsor the Oilers (good luck with that) because your money doesn’t pay for access to the GM’s conversations and justifications for what he feels is the right move for the club.

Now, every year the Oilers hold an event where you have access to the brass and you can voice your concerns right to their faces and even use a buzz word like, “fireable offence” in their presence but only if you’re season ticket holder 🙂

Peter Chiarelli said he had a 5-yr plan when he got hired, we’re halfway into that plan. He said he was going to build a team that would compete in the Pacific and as I mentioned above, the Oilers are the 3rd best team vs. the Pacific since he took over. He said he wanted to get bigger, improve the defence, and upgrade the goaltending too. All three accomplished.

What he didn’t say was that he was going to keep the smaller skilled players around that weren’t helping them make the playoffs anyhow.

DEADLINE PRIORITIES

This really depends on where they are but let’s say nothing has changed and the Oilers are well out of the playoff picture. In that case, it’s time to get out the auction bell. Typically Chiarelli likes to get his business done early as most teams are doing now (because deadline day is about as anti-climatic as something can get nowadays) but I wonder if we’ll see him wait it out this year and try for the best deal possible.

Pat Maroon is as good as gone, I’d say the same for Letestu and Mike Cammalleri. I wouldn’t be surprised if we see some of their RFAs get moved and other RFAs come in though.

My question is, do the Oilers move out Slepyshev, Caggiula or Benning or give them another year? Another thing on my mind is the future of Oscar Klefbom. His inconsistent health/performance must be giving the brass fits and the Oilers are in dire need of a RH’d PP dman.

We do have an idea that the salary cap will go up, but how far and will it go high enough to keep Ryan Nugent-Hopkins on the team or is HE the guy that will bring back that RH’d PP dman?

Back to the priorities at the deadline.

  • Acquiring draft picks in 2018
  • Moving out pricey/unneeded contracts
  • Take advantage of Cup contenders
  • Skill for the farm

I’m a huge proponent of adding picks in rounds 1-3 every year. It’s where the majority if NHLers are selected after all. If Pat Maroon can get you a 2nd and a 3rd in 2018, RAD! If you have to add a pick to upgrade that to a 1st, AWESOME! If Letestu can net the Oilers a 3rd rounder in 2018, that would be outstanding!

The Oilers have quite a few contracts in the minors and part of the black aces that could use new homes. Eric Gryba and Ryan Stanton, Mark Fayne and Ty Rattie come to mind. If the Oilers aren’t going to do anything with Joey Laleggia, let him have an opportunity somewhere else. I think I’d add Laurent Brossoit to that list too now that Al Montoya is an Oiler and signed for another year.

The Stanley Cup contenders like Nashville, Tampa, Columbus, Los Angeles, Winnipeg, or Vegas might be willing to give up on some tasty draft picks and/or prospects to solidify their playoff rosters and I’d like to see that opportunity used to stock up the farm.

Speaking of the farm, I do have a list of AHL/NHL fringe players that tickle my fancy a bit too.

  • Ivan Barbashev/Dmitri Jaskin (STL)
  • Hudson Fasching (BUF)
  • Ville Saarijarvi (DET)
  • Jared McCann (FLA)
  • Daniel Carr (MTL)
  • Josh Ho-Sang (NYI)
  • Josh Leivo/Nikita Soshnikov (TOR)
  • Jonny Brodzinski/Paul Ladue (LA)
  • Frederick Gaudreau (NSH)
  • Jeremy Roy (SJ)

I reckon that the big names in the trade market will get scooped up because the Oilers don’t have those kinds of assets. If I were to predict what we’ll really see at the deadline, I imagine it’ll be a few lateral moves and trades to set something up for this summer.

WHAT DO YOU WANT TO SEE UNTIL THE END OF THE YEAR?

I want to see this team compete night in and night out like they’re playing in game 7 of the Stanley Cup final with 2 minutes to go and a goal down. Balls to the wall compete. I want to see the coaches stop f*cking around (if they keep their jobs) and start making some changes. I want more ice time to the younger players who’ve been taking it in the chin since game 1. What better time to give them the experience they need?

I simply want to see a team that cares and plays with intensity. Score some goals along with that and I’ll be a happy fan 🙂

JJ Expected To Sign With the Oilers?

According to famed HFboards poster Speedyturtle, the Oilers are poised to sign a free agent with the initials JJ… The discussion is here. Scroll down a bit.

I’ll be honest, I don’t frequent the Hockey’s Future forums as much as I used to and I probably should but I guess Speedy Turtle has been on the money before:

So as far-fetched as it would be to simply dismiss a forum post, this poster seems to have some serious connections. Perhaps a bit more than Treenas Oil if you will. I asked one of my sources last week and was told Jagr probably wasn’t coming. I think Jim Matheson echoed that sentiment.

https://twitter.com/NHLbyMatty/status/882776379988881408

So since trading Eberle, the Oilers are left with Strome, Puljujarvi, Kassian, Slepyshev, Pakarinen, possibly Caggiula and Draisaitl, and the newly signed Ty Rattie. They could use a veteran to play there and that brings us to the JJs.

JUSSI JOKINEN

Normally good for 40 points minimum, Jussi Jokinen, a 34-year-old left-shooting right-winger, only put up 28 points last season. Easily his worst year production-wise in nearly a decade. So that could be part of the reason he was cut loose by the Panthers this summer.

Is that the kind of player the Oilers need? Would he be an improvement on what the Oilers have now? He has a ton of experience and perhaps him being available to Jesse Puljujarvi would really help the Grinnin’ Finn blossom as Connor McDavid’s wingman.

JAROMIR JAGR

I don’t know if I need to go through all the reasons why I think that Jaromir Jagr would help the Oilers but here are a few:

  • Experience
  • History of improving young players (Giroux, Barkov/Huberdeau)
  • Possession beast (Just check out the WOWY from last season)
  • Chiarelli has a working relationship with him as he acquired him for the Bruins Cup run of 2013
  • Has played with both Milan Lucic (2012/13) and Adam Larsson (2013-15)

A few things that might work against him:

  • Age
  • Western Conference travel
  • Speed

At 45 years old, Jagr is still putting up around 40 pts per season… THAT IS INSANE!!! I’m not sure if he could handle top 6 minutes night in, night out in the Western Conference but he’s a guy that will make those around him better and at least one person would definitely benefit greatly in the same way Jonathan Marchessault did last season from playing with Jags. Maybe a player like Ryan Nugent-Hopkins for example.

I just go back to the stories of how hard he works off the ice and how that has rubbed off on his teammates from previous teams and I can’t help but think how much that would help this young Oilers team. It’s too bad he didn’t come earlier when Hemsky was in Edmonton. Then again, that might’ve prevented the Oilers from drafting McDavid.

IF the Oilers are poised to really make a run for the Cup next year, I think my choice is Jagr for one year. The benefits outweigh the risk in my opinion and if you thought the McDavid jerseys sold well, Jagr jerseys will rival 97’s easily. I mean, a line of Lucic/Draisaitl/Jagr would be one of the heaviest in the league and how do you stop that in the offensive zone? Or a line of Nuge/McDavid/Jagr would cover all of the bases surely.

In the end, to see Jagr lift the Stanley Cup in an Oilers uniform, that would be priceless.

Trading Pou and Being An Oilers Fan in Mexico

What’s up Oilers fans and hockey fans alike? Here we are at the unofficial second half of the season, and wouldn’t you know it. Our boys in blue and orange are tied for first place in the Pacific with San Jose. Yeah, you read that correctly! Even if they played .500 hockey the rest of the way they’d still most likely make it into the second season. That’s right dude’s and dudette’s, the “playoffs”! It’s been a long time coming since we could all talk about post season dreams at the start of February. And these aren’t just dreams right now really, at this point the Oilers are almost a lock for the playoffs. Exciting times for sure! It’ll be something for Edmonton to just make it into the show, that in itself would leave a lot of the fans satisfied.

But me personally, I’m saying why not this year? Right? Why not make a hard run at it NOW? Look at the way McDavid, Talbot, and Draisaitl are playing for example. These guys are fired up beyond all hell! Then you throw in the strong play from the veterans, and the surprisingly great rookie, Matt Benning. This is a fantastic team, honestly. The Oilers have made more than just a great turnaround, I believe that they’ve put themselves into the conversation about “who is a threat to come out of the Western Conference this year”. Why not try and capitalize on a strong campaign from their young core group that is playing so well? The trade deadline is coming up and the Oilers should definitely be considered “buyers” going into it. I actually hope that they are one of the more aggressive players leading up to the deadline, without disrupting the balance of the team or throwing away the future. Which we all know can happen when trades don’t work out, like we’ve all seen with some deadline deals in the past. We need to hit “home runs” during the McDavid era. Easier said than done.

The Oilers definitely have some holes to fill, for example, nobody in the Oilers organization is 100% sure if Laurent Brossoit is ready to step in as the backup to Cam Talbot yet. He showed very well against the Flames, and those who know me, know that I am a HUGE Brossoit supporter. But I do believe that Edmonton will still be shopping for a veteran backup ‘tender (hopefully with playoff experience and on the last year of their contract) to shore up their goalie situation. But I do hope that Laurent gets some more games in before the deadline, and has some excellent performances to give the Oilers brass something to consider when thinking about the backup position. If they are to make a trade for a goalie (which seems inevitable at this point), Ondrej Pavelec is a name that comes to mind. They probably wouldn’t even need to give up much to acquire him as he’s fallen completely out of favor in Winnipeg. But I think that he’d be a massive upgrade over “The Monster”, and allow the inexperienced Brossoit to go back down to Bakersfield for more seasoning and to play top minutes. Talbot needs someone to take some weight off his shoulders down the stretch, the last thing that the Oilers need is for Cam to burn out or get injured. Look at last night’s game against Minny for example.

The other hole that the Oilers would most like to fill, is their third-line center position. Right now Drake Caggiula is filling that role, and although he hasn’t done a bad job, he is still a rookie. But given his versatility, he can easily slide over to the wing if they trade for a center. This is one area that I believe the Oilers will push hard to pursue a deal leading up to the trade deadline. Martin Hanzal’s name is out there, but the asking price is ridiculous (top prospect + 1st round pick + another draft pick for a UFA this summer). But if Edmonton somehow landed him without screwing up the long term, I think that would put them over the top in center depth and set them up for a nice playoff run.

Obviously, they still haven’t found a right-handed shot, power play specialist defenceman. But so far, their “defense by committee” approach has worked out quite well for them. Which gives me reason to believe that they won’t be over-actively pursuing the power-play genius RHD that we all dream of. But I’m sure that they’ll still be kicking tires on what’s available.

*cough Shattenkirk cough*

Another position of need is the right wing and a name that has been floating around as a potential solution is Edmonton native, Jarome Iginla. Yes, that Jarome Iginla. The one many of us know so well from the well renowned “Battles of Alberta”. Only he was on the “other team”. Would that not be the ultimate troll on the Flames, if they were to land Iggy? HAHAHA! I’m not against the idea even though Iginla isn’t really having a great year (but neither is his entire team), and I think he’d fill out the Oilers third line quite nicely. I highly doubt that it would cost a whole lot to pry him away from Colorado either, maybe David Musil or a 3rd/4th round draft pick? I’m sure the asking price isn’t too high, as they wouldn’t be trading for former perennial 30+ goal scorer Jarome Iginla. But an incredibly valuable pickup nonetheless.

BUT!!!! Let me bring up another possible solution to finding a right winger, why not try and bring Jaromir Jagr to Edmonton? Right? How awesome would it be to see Jagr and McDavid line up together on the PP? Historical, that’s how awesome! But in all seriousness, why not Jagr? As of right now, Florida is five points out of the last playoff spot, and the race in the East is insanely tight. Florida is a mess this year, and that’s a huge understatement. They’re in shambles from top to bottom right now, even though their play has picked up a bit as of late. But as it stands right now, they are most likely missing the playoffs this season. Everybody knows that Florida’s front office is almost entirely analytics-driven now, especially since the infamous Gallant firing. So that’s why I have this possible proposal to Florida: Since “analytics darling” Benoit Pouliot has fallen out of favor in Edmonton, and Florida LOVES their advanced stats. Why not ship him off to Florida for Jagr? Florida gets Pouliot (who is signed for 3 more years after this) for long-term help, and the Oilers get Jagr to bulk up for a LONG playoff run. Or heck, how’s this for a deal: the Oilers trade Pouliot, Davidson, and a 3rd round pick for Jagr, and Mark Pysyk (RHD). That way we clear out a LHD in exchange for a RHD to help balance out our left-heavy defence core. Now I am totally unsure what implications that this would have on the upcoming expansion draft, but I wouldn’t expect it to really be any different than the current concerns. So what do you guys think, could a Pouliot for Jagr deal work? And do you think that Florida would even consider moving the fabulous follicles of Jag’s? Or would Jaromir even consider going to the Oilers?

Either way, if that happened it would be a union of my two favourite things in hockey, the Oilers and Jagr. Seriously, I love that dude.

BEING AN OILERS FAN IN MEXICO

The last thing that I want to touch upon is something amazing in my personal opinion. As most of my readers know already, Kosmic Burrito is ALL ABOUT psychedelic quests, funky trips, and all around fun times. Well around two weeks ago, my wife, three sons, and I went on a trip down to Mexico. We also went with my wife’s parents and mine as well, and we all stayed at Sandos Caracol in Playa del Carmen. We were right along the Mayan Riviera, and the resort is actually an “Eco-Resort” which is built into the jungle. There were animals running around the resort like crazy, it was so gnarly. My whole entire family had a blast, especially my boys. They’ll remember this trip for a long time, that’s for sure. I highly recommend the resort to anyone, especially those with children. There was so much for the kids to do.

Unfortunately, we were down there when the nightclub shooting’s happened, but we were nowhere near the shooting’s when they took place. It was a somber moment when we were notified about what happened from friends at home in Canada. My heart certainly goes out to those families whose lives have been affected by this tragic event.

But something else also happened when I was down there, I literally met at least 20+ fellow Oilers fans during the week down in Mexico. It was insane, “we” were everywhere! Everywhere! Now, remember, I live 45 minutes outside of downtown Toronto. So clearly I’m surrounded by Leafs fans, it goes with the territory. It was amazing! The only other time’s that I’ve been around so many other Oilers fans, is when they come into town to play Toronto. Also, those who know me, know that I have a massive amount of Oilers gear in my wardrobe. For example, I have about 15 Oilers hats and 10 t-shirts alone (don’t get me started on jerseys). So the Oil go, wherever I go. I was getting compliments on my hats, shirts, etc. People would shout “OILERS!” and raise their first in the air, while whizzing by on those golf carts that they zip you resort’s on. It was freaking cool! Lots of Oiler love. Apparently, I missed a pretty cool moment that my boys caught, we were sitting/standing in the resort lobby having a few drinks and talking. I was wearing one of those jersey shirts, that had “McDavid 97” on the back, and a little dude around 6 or 7 was walking by and wearing the same shirt as me (don’t worry, we were wearing our own age appropriate version haha). I guess he stopped right beside me and pointed up at my shirt to show his father. Too bad I missed the little dude, but awesome pick buddy, wherever you are haha! But my favourite Oilers fan interaction of the week was when another guy who was also wearing an Oilers hat, walked up to me and said,

“It’s ok now, it’s safe to wear our Oilers gear proudly again!”

BLH Weekly Recap Feb 29-March 6th

Another Week in the books saw the Edmonton Oilers go 3-1-0, where the Oilers had a nice three game winning streak, but had a very Oiler loss on Friday against the Columbus Blue Jackets.  Tonight they face the Winnipeg Jets, another struggling Canadian team.

It wasn’t a bad week for the Oilers and their wins against Buffalo and Philadelphia were one sided wins.

Edmonton Oilers Three Stars of the Week

3. Patrick Maroon. Acquired on Monday for a 4th round draft pick and prospect Martin Gernat, Maroon has made quite the impression right off the get go, having a goal and two assists in the two games that he has played with the Edmonton Oilers. Maroon is a 6’3 230 mammoth of a man and it was on display against Philadelphia in his debut where he would be constantly be facing two players at once. He also scored against the team who drafted him, which was also his Oilers debut. Maroon adds an element that is lacking from the Oilers ala Zack Kassian: Grit, Size and Nastiness.

2. Taylor Hall. Hall had two goals and an assist in the four games played this week and he was looking like his usual self. His goal against the Flyers was a great play and while he went hard into the boards, it was a great, impressive effort from number four. He scored against Columbus and played some minutes with Connor McDavid, where he did not look out of place. Hall is a natural talent and while his production has stalled, he is one of the best point producers in the game. For a team that struggles at times to score goals, suggesting trading one of the guys who produces at the rate he does, is foolish.

1. Connor McDavid. McDavid returns to the number one spot after a very impressive week. McDavid had six points in four games and I’ll be damned if it’s too soon to say this, but he’s one of the best players in the NHL at age 19. Sure, sample size blah blah, but number 97 is the most exciting player in the game. He’s the reason why people will tune into Oilers games, and there’s no shame in saying that. In the first McEichel bowl, he came away victorious with two goals, the first 22 seconds into the game and the second being the overtime winner (which was gracefully fed off a miss shot by Jack Eichel). He’s something else and it’s a shame we didn’t get to see him throughout the full year.

Edmonton Oilers News

The Oilers were busy on a dull Trade Deadline day by opening up with claiming Adam Pardy and Adam Cracknell off waivers.

The Oilers finished the day with acquiring the already mentioned, Patrick Maroon.

I did a nifty little grade for all of the Trade Deadline moves made by the Oilers (including the ones leading up to the Deadline)

Connor McDavid should win the Calder. Seriously he should.

The Edmonton Oilers are about to play the Jets in a Heritage Classic this upcoming fall.  It should be officially announced today.

Around the League

William Nylander scored his first Career NHL Goal against the Ottawa Senators, in Dion Phaneuf’s return to Toronto since being traded to Ottawa

Zac Rinaldo is an idiot and was suspended yet again.

Max Domi had his first career suspension after instigating a fight with less than five minutes left against Anaheim.

Jaromir Jagr tied Gordie Howe for career points.

In that same link above, Nikolai Ehelers suffered a scary eye injury.

The NHL is talking about moving the draft age to 19.
